by MEREDITH BETHUNE
Kampot pepper is very special. It grows best at the foot of the mountains because of the quartz in the soil,” says Sorn Sothy, the owner of Sothy’s Pepper Farm, […]
Stanger Pepper Plantation is a boutique organic pepper farm growing black, red, and white pepper as well as long pepper. Other crops grown on the property are mango and avocado as well us cucumber and chili. All are grown using organic methods.
Located in the Protected Geographical Indication region of Kampot, Cambodia, South East Asia; the region is well known for its high quality pepper product that is shipped all over the world. The crops on each farm registered within the region adhere to strict guidelines set by the KPPA (Kampot Pepper Promotion Association) such as organic practices, genus of pepper grown and quality assurances required.
The Stanger Pepper Plantation harvested its first crop in 2016 and commenced branding and selling, as a retailer and wholesaler, its product in 2017. Customers range from Australia, Japan and Cambodia and product is either shipped individually from online sales to bulk shipping to wholesalers overseas.
All of our pepper vines are grown on timber poles and in partial shade. Black, white, green, and red peppercorns are all harvested from the pepper vine (Piper nigrum). The pepper fruit takes on a slightly difference characteristic depending on when it is harvested. For black peppercorns, the pepper fruit is harvested at the earlier stages of ripeness. After harvesting, the pepper fruit is placed on large drying beds in the sun for several days, being turned over periodically.

A geographical indication designates and protects a product coming from a specific geographical area and which particular quality, reputation or other characteristics can be linked directly with this geographical origin.
To guide farmers, producers, traders and food processors as well as consumers, COrAA developed the “Standards for Organic Crop Production” and the “Standards for Chemical-Free Crop Production”.
As a member of the Kampot Pepper Promotion Association (KPPA) our farm is regularly inspected to ensure that the final product originates from the defined geographical area and complies with all the requirements of the KPPA Specifications. Both internal and external controls are measured and inspected.
